Captain Erik Drahos
My 28-year sailing career started when I was a boy of 9 years old. My father moved my sister and I from California to the Puget Sound where we lived on his 32’Trimaran sailboat. We sailed from Vashon, Washington to the San Juan Islands for a couple of years where we lived at anchor the whole time and rowed to shore to catch the school bus each day. At age 15 we sailed to Monterey California where I finished high school in Pacific Grove.
After high school we sailed down into the Sea of Cortez and did some great Baja cruising. From Baja I went to Washington State and got a summer job as a wilderness ranger in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. When the season ended I decided to go to Hawaii. In Hawaii I got some great boating jobs ranging from crew on a 55 foot sailing cat out of the Hilton Waikoloa to small dive boats where I was an underwater videographer and Scuba instructor.
For the last 6 years of my life in Hawaii I worked as captain and crew on sport fishing and dive boats, my biggest fish is a 1,213 pound blue marlin. |
